The Willie Smith’s Apple Shed is located in the Huon Valley, 30 minutes south of Hobart. This is Australia’s first organic apple cidery and it resides on the site of an orchard started way back in 1888, and which is still run by a fourth-generation Smith.
The Shed makes for a fantastic road-trip destination in southern Tasmania.
In the rustic surrounds of an original apple shed built in 1942, learn about the Huon’s fascinating apple heritage told through the eyes of Willie Smith. A range of delicious cider and beer is available at cellar door.
The Shed’s café is focused on local, seasonal and sustainable produce. They have created a simple menu that showcases produce from the most passionate farmers, growers and makers in the region. A small providore stock great local specialities like native pepper, jam, garlic, spices, teas, etc for visitors to stock up on.
All in all, the Apple shed is a great place to visit for a casual bite to eat and laid-back drink, either indoors or out on the terrace (Tassie weather permitting!).
You’ll find it open from 10:00 am daily at 2064 Huon Highway, Grove, Tasmania.
